Time to De- Stress...

I knew it was a matter of time. My body has started to manifest saturation. I've ignored earlier symptoms of stress, out of necessity to be honest, because of the house sale and move. But now I wish I slowed down! And rested more.

I've just discovered that my left hand too has developed the CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) and has to be fixed with surgery (not sure when), my chronic headaches are annoying me very much and the 'bad spells' have become even more frequent. Finally (hope that's all, folks!).... my body is completely covered in hives!! If you are not familiar with it, I'm speaking of migrant, extremely itchy bumps. I also have them on my face and hand palms. I'm going crazy :((
I suffer from allergies, but usually nothing that significant, and had the very same rashes only once, about 20 years ago. They lasted on/off more than one year, then suddenly disappeared. I bet in both cases it was stress + sunlight- I am extremely sensitive to light (so I have to ALWAYS wear hats and sunglasses in summer, and not clothes with very short sleeves) and we have experienced an early summer a couple of weeks ago, with hot temperatures, really unusual for this season.

Now I'm trying to de- stress, as this seems to be the best medicine (together with a tedious diet!!). Working outside in the shade when I can, sipping tea (coffee has been totally banished from my allowed beverages) and sketching new ideas down.

Found this old pink cup some days ago, when I've been presented a few unexpected hours out together with my husband. I am in love with it.

I got these cut hyacinths for a song at the nursery, I really adore their rich scent! Do you?

And to make my relax even more effective... I'm painting spring flowers. You know I am a March girl, and love everything with a spring feel!
It is hard to stay focused with those itchy-things everywhere, though. Hope they'll go away soon.

Hope you are doing great with allergies and pollens...
Have a happy ( and allergy- free) Easter week!
Monica x

  1. Monica, so sorry to hear about your ailments. I'm glad you're slowing down a little and taking care of yourself.

The painting is just beautiful. What talent.

I also love Hyacinths and have been so excited that I have several colors that are naturalizing at the edge of my woods. More have been popping up each spring. Have a relaxing and healing week!

  2. I am so sorry about how your body has been reacting to stress. I really wish you well again.
I too love the smell of hyacinths. What a beautiful bloom. Your pictures as usual are gorgeous. And I'll bet your sketches are too!
I hope you will take it easy and heal.

  3. HI Monica,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having so many health issues. I too suffer from allergies and seem to be more severe this year for some reason. But I also have Lupus. Have you been tested for this? The headaches, sunsensativity and hives are symptoms of this disease. And stress seems to exacerbate the symptoms. Of course, your could be just allergies. I use the word "just" lightly as allergies can be very dibilitating (speaking from experience). I suffer from migraines too. Which if one has never experienced one, they need to count themselves very lucky.
Yes, hyacinths are just heavenly in every way.
    Praying for you, dear girl.

  4. Monica, I am sosorry about the CTS. I have been experiencing a bit of it myself. No surgery for me, just resting my hands, massaging my forearms and hoping I get better. No knitting or crochet for a while. I sleep with splints on and that seems to help. I hope your headaches improve and the hives leave quickly. Stress is so horrible for us, and it often shows up after we have gone through something difficult. You are in my thoughts and prayers,
    Meredith

Yes - I have had to deal with hives many times over the years, and now the stress results in high blood pressure.
Allergies - Oh yes! Today is the best day I have had in over a week. Good ole Spring time !! :D
    Have a great week!

  17. Monica, Your photography continues to blow me away with its stunning beauty. Guess what? You and I have the same pink notebook, I use mine for writing inspirational thoughts and a bit of sketching. So love the pencils that come with it. About the hives, yes they are telling you your body cannot handle more stress. They are horrible with the itch. Have experienced them too when I was in a very bad situation for way too long. Continue to care and nurture yourself in both big and small ways until your body has healed. Good luck with the surgery too. You are in my prayers.

  18. I'm a March girl too and Spring is my thing! Thankfully I don't seem to suffer much from any allergies and pollen's only annoyance for me is that it makes everything outside yellow! The car, the patio - it's everywhere.
I think sitting outside amongst all that fresh beauty, sipping tea from a pretty cup and sketching in your beautiful book are great ways to begin to de-stress. Take care and wishing an itch-free day soon!

  21. So sorry to hear about your stress and illness. I will put you on my prayer list to recover quickly. Stress does bad things to our bodies, but you can turn it around with some rest and change of pace. Your painting is beautiful. I am a watercolorist also, and always enjoy seeing the fruit of the labors of fellow artists. Thanks for sharing, Carrell

  22. Hi Monica,
Oh no! me too, I have allergies also. I picked up a really bad one in Las Vegas from all the smoke and I still have a sore throat two weeks later..
My daughter gets hives and I know its just terrible and so itchy.
You and me with our TCS, so you are going to have the surgery...I am still putting it off, my Mom had both her hands done and she is just fine now.
I brought my knitting with me to work on while on the plane to Vegas and within mins of working on a cable stitch my hands went numb. You get some rest its the best thing for TCS and stress, just resting the hands will help the TCS.
Sorry I haven't written in a while, the time has just flown by with my vacation and then not feeling well from the smoke allergy.
Have a sweet day and really big hugs for you, Elizabeth

  25. I hope you are feeling much better now, Monica!!! We are experiencing a very late spring... the temperatures are still quite cold and most days we have cloudy skies. I have two tiny daffodils in my front yard that just opened... the rest of my bulb flowers are still tiny undeveloped buds! ;)
