Embracing Joyful Simplicities.

"As we become curators of our own contentment on the Simple Abundance path, one of the great payoffs is that we start to seek peace and comfort in the joyful simplicities. Little things begin to mean a lot to us. Joyful simplicities nourish body and soul by engaging our senses. They teach us how to live in the present moment. Life comes together when we seek out the Sublime in the ordinary".
Sarah Ban Breathnach

So many of you are already familiar with Simple Abundance, but some are not. This book by Sarah Ban Breathnach is such a powerful spiritual tool that I encourage you to read it, if you haven't yet.
Inspired by it, I want to start another series of inspirational posts here on my blog... let's bring contentment to our lives by embracing joyful simplicities all year round!
Today, I share with you something that makes me happy- stop for a while (even in the middle of hundreds of "must-dos"), curl up on the sofa with one of my journals (this gorgeous one made especially for me by my dear friend Louise, which adds to the happiness and comfort), a hot cuppa and woolen wrist warmers, enjoying the ray of sunshine that's kissing my face through the window panes...
What about you? What makes you happy in this very moment?

  3. I love this series you plan to do. I agree , simple for me is also the way.

The stillness of early morning and the few chirps of the birds as they sing to the world, its time to wake up, you've been blessed with another day.

I read:"Where there is love, there are precious moments in everyday life.Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections".

  9. Monica, I look forward to your series of inspirational posts. For me simplicity is the key to happiness. One of my favorite moments is when I can sit in the screened porch with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds. Or when I'm hiking with a friend and enjoying nature. Now I have to pick up "Simple Abundance". Have a peaceful weekend.

  11. Hi Monica,
Simple Abundance will always be my favorite book. Mainly because it came to me at a time that I really needed to read it and live by the principles written in it. In some ways, it changed my life and helped me make a huge shift in my thinking. I read it over eleven years ago and still read from it's pages often.
What is making me happy at this very moment...is looking out the window at the birds who are stopping by to eat the crab apples off the big tree out my window, making me very glad that I have a garden that allows them nourishment on this cold winter's day.
I loved reading your feature in my last S.Life!!!!!
    hugs from here...

  12. Waking up on your own time (no alarm clocks). The smell of coffee brewing while your laying in bed thinking about what your going to do first. The aroma of Green Chilis roasting...wafting through the air and knowing dinner is going to be fabulous. A beautiful morning walk in the great company of your mother. The excitement of your dog when you come home and he is soooooooo happy to see you. I am so Grateful for the simplest of things.

  15. A cup of hot tea and a square of dark chocolate, consumed while gazing out my window, or, in the summertime, while sitting on my patio. Writing, doodling in my journal. Taking time to just be. Gratitude.

  16. (((BIG SMILES AND HUGS!)))
I hear so much of this book... I think I need to buy a copy soon! I decided on Jan. 1st to simplify this year... starting with some of my collections (a girl can only keep collecting for so long... then she starts having collections of collections)! ;) I feel freer as I move some of my things along for others to appreciate.

  17. Right this moment I am sitting in front of a fire on my screen porch in the mountains, reading and looking at beautiful art work and photographs on the blogs I follow, listing to the creek and the birds in the back ground with a heart full of gratitude. Heaven!

  18. Sarah Ban Breathnach has become a close, close friend by this particular time of my life! It was very hard to get SIMPLE ABUNDANCE here in my country, but finally I found it at an used-books store; and since then it has been my favourite book forever. Right now, what makes me happy is strawberry tea -served in a beautiful English styled decorated cup- and writing on my personal journals... By the way, I´m your newest follower and look forward to reading more posts like this!
    Hugs,
    Kass
