⎨Easy and uncomplicated⎬
One of the ways I highly simplified my life was to change my mind about storage in the kitchen, and challenge my belief about the need to have fitted kitchens.
I've always loved the charm of my Grandmother's vintage free-standing furniture and the simplicity and glorious mess of French and English country kitchens- so why was I holding tight to my belief? What if I gave myself permission to try different things and find new ways?
And so, years ago I created my own vintage kitchen dresser with an old Welsh plate rack (that I painted white) and my Grandmother's chest of drawers (made by my Grandfather) underneath.
I found out that housing all the things I constantly use on open shelving, instead of hiding them, is very practical, and makes them easy to find and easy to put away. It is so much easier to find immediately what you're looking for- instead of having to think- when everything is in full view. And I could finally enjoy my beloved pieces I have collected over the years!
And if you're wondering... no, dust isn't a problem when you use things all the time! On top of that, the intentional, mindful act of regularly dusting, cleaning and taking care of the things that I love adds to the charm, pleasure and contentment!
