THE SWEET PEA SAGA! (PART 1)

⎨The sweet pea saga! (part 1)⎬

If you are a long time follower of mine, especially of my (now defunct) Instagram profile, you may know I'm in LOVE with sweet peas! If you didn't know, now you do! :)

After a few not very successful attempts at growing them in this house, this year I decided to try again!

I had this idea very late though, it was March already, but I said to myself "why not", and I quickly set my sowing station indoors. In the meantime, I prepared a large pot outside, working the soil, incorporating pelleted manure, and watering it. Every now and then I worked and stirred the soil again, to be sure the manure was well incorporated before I had to transplant the seddlings.

I did everything very quickly, without overthinking the process. Indoors, I basically gathered some toilet paper rolls, some soil, plastic trays from the bin, and a seed package. I filled the rolls with soil, and planted two sweet pea seeds into each one (pressing them down into the soil with my fingers). Absolutely NO soaking in water, no cuts on the seeds. Just took them from the package, and planted them. Easy peasy. I don't like to complicate my life! :)

Then I placed all the rolls in the plastic trays on my French antique table by the window, watered them... and I let them do their own thing.

Every day I would stop by the window and stare at the rolls, feeling that sweet warmth inside my chest. Full of wonder, enthusiasm, hope and a sense of anticipation. I watered the soil if needed (we still had the heating on).

Nearly all the seeds germinated in 7-10 days (as you can see in the pictures), and when they did, I immediately placed the trays outside (to avoid the seedlings getting leggy).

(To be continued...)
