This page marks an interesting shift in the way I was doing my sketchbook.
While in the previous pages I kind of "forced" myself to visually record in my journal what I had seen on a specific day (following a common trend among Artists), on this date I felt inspired to paint a little French scene, inspired by a conversation I had had with a lady I know at the Antique Market the day before. We had spoken about the French Riviera, and I recalled my time spent there.
I remember being so excited to paint this scene- blue shutters with a cascade of bouganvillea-, and I suddenly realized, "Wait, I can really paint what I want in my sketchbook, even if I want to keep a daily journal!!" :) I can paint places or things far away from where I live, and still call it my daily visual journal (or watercolor sketchbook journal). Recording emotions, dreams, ideas and images I see in my mind for me is no different than having lived the experience for real!
So, from that day on, I gave myself permission to not be tied to the subjects that I was actually seeing during the day, but I started exploring and finding my visual language. I started understanding what I really, really, really love painting and what to paint!
