⎨Welcoming the hygge season, and how I use it for growth and healing⎬
The colder months are here, and with them, shorter and darker days, more time spent indoors, and the desire for warmth and coziness.
I am a HSP and one of those people who love Autumn and Winter (.. and doesn't like Summer, except the British one that is everything except "summery"! LOL), so at this time of the year, after the Summer's burning heat and excessive brightness, I definitely come alive.
I love the comfort and the coziness, but especially, the darker and colder days, that facilitate stillness and introspection- and that's the real gift of these months, as for me.
I've been intentionally using this time of year for deep healing and inner growth for many years now, and these are five of my practices, and ways I use this precious time for my own benefit. You can use it, too.

1. I keep the Truth and my Intentions on the forefront of my mind. The Truth is, the Light is always present. We may not see it with our five senses, but there is always Light. I don't let the darkness swallow me. I choose to invite the darkness to be my friend, instead of being an enemy that I need to fight. On top of that, I really live my Intentions for my life, one of which I set many years ago, was that I want to live in the Light. Get in contact with the Light within, nurture it, use it, celebrate it, share it, let it shine and overflow from my heart. Darkness cannot scare or hurt you if you are the Light.
2. I intentionally use the darkness to be present, go within and reach my depths. When the outside world is not so bright and shiny, it's much easier to give your attention to your inner world. All the blessings in life come from the inside of ourselves, therefore it's of the utmost importance to be able to connect with that awareness and work with it. Plus, all the guidance we may need and desire to walk through life in the most harmonious way comes from the heart... so you need to be able to sense it and tune into it, and establish a permanent connection that allows you to have access to it anytime- not just during the darker months.
3. I nourish myself and take great care of myself. The hygge season is a very playful and lovely time, where I can play a lot with candles and wool, my favorite colors, natural elements foraged in the wild, and all the things that bring me and my loved ones comfort and a sense of warmth. I can (and do!) indulge in a hot bath almost daily, light my candles (also during the day), wear my favorite sweaters, cook healthy meals from scratch, try new recipes, declutter and let go of things that don't serve me anymore, decorate my home in a way that makes me happy.
4. I learn from Nature, and heal myself out in Nature. I rest. I celebrate the natural rhythms of Nature, and of myself as part of it. Our society has taught us unhealthy ways to live, but since many years ago I've worked at unlearning. And replacing the unhealthy ways with much healthier ones. I also love doing my inner work in Nature as usual, so I go for early morning power walks/Nordic Walking (with poles) or my Morning Walk or "Soul Ride" (= my bike ride, as I affectionately call it! LOL). It's the most beautiful time of the day, for me, when I can really enjoy silence and solitude, and do all my practices in quiet. If you want to come in Nature with me, and do our inner work together, have a look at my "Healing Nature" online class here.
5. I journal a lot. The darker days are a wonderful opportunity to grab my journal and light a candle, and journal my heart out. Or do my inner healing work on the pages, raising my awareness about myself and my life, uncovering and uprooting my fears, speaking the Truth, etc. My journaling prompts for personal growth, healing & bliss are here, if you need some guidance on what to focus upon while you're journaling. One of the things I look forward to each and every year is doing "Quiet Christmas, A self-love journey for the month of December". I love love love this mini course of mine, I think I was truly inspired when I wrote it! :) It should be started at the beginning of November, as this gives you plenty of time to read the introduction and play with it before the first day of December. The course is tailored specifically for the Holidays and the month of December, but gives you general guidance and pearls of wisdom from my own experience to apply to your life any day of the year. I use the prompts in the course as guidance and then write and collage in my journal. In this mini journaling course, we also focus on hygge and playing... and I truly love that part, too! So I look forward to puttering around the house with Intention, to create a cozy nest for the colder months ahead. If you want to have a look, the ebook with the "Quiet Christmas" course is here.
See you soon!
Monica xoxo
