(This post, now updated, was first published on my blog in January 2021)
In my family, we don’t use to celebrate New Year’s Eve with parties or anything like that, but we do celebrate the very first day of the year with a traditional lunch just like Christmas, a beautiful table, gorgeous food, and we watch the Vienna New Year’s Concert while eating!
I created this simple creative tablescape for our kitchen table, with various objects on the table with symbolic meaning, including persimmons for abundance and fruitfulness. ♡
Everything was spontaneous and intuitive and not thought at all, as usual. I simply let my instinct guide me while preparing the table, assembling the various elements.
I also incorporated magnolia leaves, that I had found when it snowed. A large branch was broken on the ground, and I gathered a bouquet of fresh leaves, that I then put in an English antique white pitcher, adorned with a red velvet ribbon. The pitcher lays on a vintage gardening sieve, that I found during one of my antiquing expeditions.
We enjoyed this table immensely!
